Here is one of the truest and most beautiful facts in all of science, rarely discussed but mind-openly important; light is fast. Faster than anything. It moves about three hundred thousand kilometres every second, so quick that on Earth it seems to arrive instantly, the moment you flick a switch. Space, however, is so vast that even light, the fastest thing there is, takes time to cross it. And that changes everything about what it means to look up at the sky.
